The print only option is the most affordable route to go. It also gives you the greatest flexibility in choosing your own matting and framing to match your decor. Prints are also great if you are in a hurry as they usually arrive in 5-7 days. Prints are shipped flat via UPS or FedEx Ground.
I offer two matting options on my smaller prints. You can either choose an artistic white matting or a luxurious suede matting. The traditional white is a perfect way to give prints as gifts as it will work with any decor. The suede matting adds a sense of richness and texture to the piece and is specifically chosen to match the image. I don't offer custom matting options so if you want to choose your own mat colors I encourage you to order the "print only" option.
Prints are matted to standard sizes (8x10, 11x14, 16x20) so that frames can be purchased affordably. Matted prints ship in 5-7 days. (See photos: matted 1, matted 2)
This is by far the most popular format. Archival photographic prints are mounted to a wood background and then laminated with a new 3M archival film. The result is a photo that can be displayed on the wall with no glare. Many people tell me that the feel like they can walk right into the photos. This has to be seen to be truly appreciated. As well, they can be easily cleaned of almost anything. They have a very modern and professional feel and generally work best in contemporary settings. When ordering this format, realize that since there is no matting or frame that the print size is the same as the final size of the piece. It typically takes 3 weeks from the time an order is placed until it is shipped.
Box Format
There are two formats of wood mounting available. The first is called a "box" and with this format the piece is edged back to the wall with a complementing color. The second format is called a "float". This format sits off the wall about 1" allowing for a shadow to be cast on the wall, creating a greater sense of depth. Both formats use a French Cleat to attach to the wall. (See example photos: wood mounted print, box, float 1, float 2)
A classy option for large prints is canvas. The texture of the canvas gives the image an almost painting like feel while the image itself holds such detail and subtlety of color that it can be quite amazing. The printed canvas is then stretched over a wooden frame using a gallery wrap so that the image bends around the sides, giving it a three dimensional look. Occasionally people ask if they can frame it and this is always an option that you can have done if you prefer a more traditional look. This format works best for images 30x40 and larger. Only images in the 4x5 gallery contain enough detail to work at these sizes. It takes about three weeks to prepare the canvas prints.
