July 1, 2008: Photography Workshops, Photo Guiding & More
Beginning the second week of July I will begin offering a weekly "Introduction to Landscape Photography" workshop. This is a 5 hour program combining both field and classroom training, which will help you to create evocative landscape images. I'll also begin offering a new photo guiding service, taking photographers to some of the most stunning backcountry locations in Rocky Mountain National Park which few photographers have had the opportunity to shoot. Later in July I'll also begin offering other services such as hourly instruction and custom itineraries for photographers visiting RMNP. Read my summer newsletter to find out more.June 15, 2008: Finding the Right Art
It can be very difficult to find just the right art work for your wall. Every space is unique, every one’s approach to decor is different, and every image communicates its own message. Many people will spend months going from gallery to gallery trying to imagine what the different pieces will look like on their wall. Underlying the process is the fear of making a large purchase only to find that it doesn’t suit that space as well as they hoped. To assist with this difficult decision making process I have developed a new way for you to see what an image will look like on your own wall. Using computer imaging software, I can overlay my artwork on a photo of your wall, allowing us to try a variety of pieces in different sizes to find exactly the image or images that are right for your space. For more information click on the image.June 28, 2007: Crutches and Tripod (Updated)
I've been told by the doctor that I can be off the crutches, so I'm out hiking and doing photography again! Yippee!! I'm now waiting on the final permission from the National Park Service and I'll begin offering photographic workshops. Hopefully it won't be long. I'll send out a newsletter and update this website as soon as I'm able to start. Thanks everyone for your patience! On March 25th after completing an evening of photography near Forest Canyon Overlook on Trail Ridge Road, a friend and I began our hike back to Hidden Valley. Near the Ute Trail, I slipped on a large patch of ice and tore a ligament in my leg. For the last 11 weeks I have been doing everything the doctor has ordered and unfortunately, I am still on crutches. As a result, I am not able to get out into the mountains, to lead workshops or do many of the things that I had planned. The few new photos that I have added were taken from very close to the road, but even this is more than I should be doing. I apologize to those of you who are waiting to participate in photography workshops. As soon as I am up and running again, we will get them started. When things improve, I'll post it here. - Erik March 13, 2008: Six Weeks in the United Kingdom
I've just returned from six weeks in the United Kingdom, visiting my wife's family and many of our friends. I had planned to spend a great deal of my time doing photography, but we all found ourselves ill for most of our visit. Despite this, I still managed to get out a few times. This included an evening on Cape Cornwall, a visit to Plymouth harbor, a morning and evening at Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge, two days in the beautiful Lake District and a very rainy week in the stunning highlands of Scotland. You can see some of the highlights from the trip or see all 65 new images by visiting the relevant galleries: Cornwall, Devon, Bristol, Lake District, and Scotland.February 8, 2008: Snowshoeing in RMNP
Over half the year in Rocky Mountain National Park the trails are covered in snow, often deep snow. Yet with a pair of snowshoes most places are still accessible. The winter makes it much more challenging to get to locations and the best images are rare during this time, but it is a time when it is easy to find solitude and peace in Rocky. On most days one can enjoy the park to themselves. October 27, 2007: Oregon Excursion
I just returned from a family vacation to Oregon and while we were there I managed to sneek away a few times and capture a few photos of this spectacular part of the country. If you'd like to get a peak at some of what we saw, click on the photo to go to my new Oregon Gallery. October 14, 2007: Autumn Review
Today we received our first significant snow in Rocky Mountain National Park and the leaves have almost all fallen. It seems that winter has arrived. As always, it seems to have come all too soon. In an effort to stay positive about the coming six months of winter I took a look through some of the photos I took during these last few weeks and chose a few of thee ones I like most. If you are interested in having a look, click on the photo.
September 21, 2007: People's Choice Award
Each autumn, the "Art Center of Estes Park" holds its national "Lines into Shapes" exhibit. This year over 130 pieces of art were accepted into the show, representing over 30 states and Canada. Erik's "Tall Dalmatians" image was voted by artists and others in attendance at the opening reception as the "People's Choice". This piece as well as the rest of the show will be on display at the Art Center until October 7th. |
